A lovely sight to behold! Planted en masse, the azure-blue, 3/4 inch flowers look like a sea of blue floating above the finely textured foliage. Although each flower lasts only one day, they are produced in such abundance that plants flower for 12 weeks beginning in late spring, and even longer when planted in northern climates and partial shade.

'Nanum Sapphire' differs from the species in its compact form and wiry flower stems. Flax is also a prolific reseeder, so be prepared to share some of these plants with friends and neighbors.

Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips:

Flax has been grown in England for centuries and is still farmed in Europe today as a source of fiber to make linens and rope. Try to pick a flower stem and you will understand why. 'Nanum Sapphire' is a tireless performer, especially when given a proper growing environment; light, well-drained soil and full sun are best. All Flax species abhor 'wet feet', especially when it is a result of poor winter drainage, so make sure you provide very well-drained soil. Once established, it will be quite drought tolerant. This is a great plant for Southern gardens, since it tolerates the summer heat very well.
